This shows how the post fits around the plate at the top of the metal column. Two sides have to fit under the bolts in the plate and two sides fit just beyond the edge of the plate. The three pre-assembled sides are cut a litle bit short to be sure they can be put in place easily. The fourth side is then cut to length, allowing 1/8" for expansion.
